Is this Fact or Fiction?
|
| Skipping School - Did this really happen |
One day about four of us finally got up enough nerve
to skip school (probably freshman year) met at Florence Stroud's house
but then were afraid to go outside and were "hold up there most
of the day." Want names --well instead I'll give initials and
maybe later names, F.S., P.G., C.K., and M.C. Anyway, it wasn't as
much fun as we thought it would be! (Melba) |
| Girard Initiation - Who did this happen to? |
"The Girard Initiation" which involved being
picked up at night and being dropped off out in the country or at
the "pits" in the dark and cold of night and trying to find
your way back to town! (I personally think this is why to this day
I am petrified of the dark.) (Melba) |
| Pittsburg Drive-In - How many did this? |
sneaking into the Pittsburg Drive-In in the truck of
a car. I remember being one of several in a car trunk succeeding to
get through the gate, having parked and then only to get thrown out
as I foot hit the ground. The ultimate challenge was to have a lighted
cigar and on occasion, one beer (with a straw), in a trunk of somebody's
car. That was indeed a "success story." (Melba) |
'62 Car Guy -
Can anyone confirm or recant this. |
Our "Car Guy For The Class of 1962 must have been Tom Holloway
and wasn't it a beige in color, Plymouth with flames? (Melba)
Maynard's (alias Tom Holloway) first car was the HEN WAGON and
later on
he got HEN II I believe from Butch Mills but don't bet any money
on that,
I've partied a few times since then. (Robert Hill)

Yes there is!
Just

| Sign of Achievement - I thought the "Zombies"
started at the Cozy Theater |
Another Sign Of Achievement: To be employed at Nick's
Drive-In and excel at your job by being able to make a great "Zombie."
Zombie was the drink of choice which was combination of all the flavors
you could squeeze into that 12 ounce cup! (Melba) |
| GRHS Track |
How many guys can remember hiding out at Gilliland's
filling station during
the first few days of track when we had to go on those country runs.
General Jack would still have us running if he knew how many times
we did
that! (Robert Hill) Or how about the time we all got caught cutting
across the filed and General Jack took us all out about seven miles
and told us to start running and if we stopped he would take us back
and have to start all over again. (Jim Spieth) |
| Bushwhacking |
A bunch of guy's would go out Saturday night's and drive
up and down country roads with the car lights off looking for couples
parked. When a car was spotted they would get as close a possible,
turn on the car lights, honk the horn and drive buy as fast as possible.
During the time of the 4th of July Fire Crackers (M-80's or Cherry
Bombs) were used, so I am told. There was a time one such car got
stuck around 2 a.m. on a muddy road and a farmer was gotten out of
bed to pull the car out. Pet, who was that farmer? |
| Remembrances of Susan & Connie |
Miss Fern Winger's is reported to have been her mothers,
sister Nancy and brother Bruce's as well as her 1st Grade Teacher.
Susan wonders if Connie remembers " when they would stand and
watch in amazement as Miss Winger killed chickens for dinner -- using
a broom" Susan also wonders if Connie recalls when they
would play in her (Miss. Wagner's) chicken shed sometimes.
( I bet that I have no girls in my class that would do that!) |
